(ABC 6 News) – Monday entered the fourth week of the murder trial of Adam Fravel, the man facing multiple murder charges in the death of Madeline Kingsbury.

As the fourth week of the trial began, Monday was supposed to be a critical day of testimony, but instead it turned into a grueling showdown between attorneys.

The standoff came down to what evidence can and can’t be allowed during the trial, and lawyers on both sides are fighting for what they want.

More than two hours of the day passed without the jury as prosecutors and defense attorneys tried to discard evidence and testimony in the trial.

Fravel’s team scored a victory when the judge prohibited Kingsbury’s diary entries from being introduced into evidence due to rumors.

Later that day, the defense objected to what Kingsbury’s biological mother would testify, but this time, the judge sided with the state and will not censure him.

The third break of the day was surrounded by surveillance videos, which prosecutors have been alluding to for weeks, purportedly capturing Kingsbury’s truck after he disappeared. So far, the judge has not decided whether they will be admissible.

Kingsbury’s family and friends were supposed to testify on Monday, but because of how slowly everything unfolded, they are now expected to testify on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, mugshots taken of Fravel showing him stripped down to his shorts were spread around the courtroom showing bruises and scratches on his face and body.

These photographs were taken by police about a week after Kingsbury disappeared and showed two yellow bruises on Fravel’s chest, one on his left forearm near the wrist and another just above his left elbow.

Red scratches were also seen on his nose and above his lip as prosecutors argued Kingsbury fought for his life against Fravel that day.

However, defense attorneys have already expressed concern why those marks were documented a week later and not in their initial interviews.

A test of Fravel was also shown to a friend on the afternoon Kingsbury disappeared as Fravel wrote: “Sup bro, how’s your Friday?”

At this point in the trial, 52 state witnesses have taken the stand inside the Blue Earth County Justice Center, and none have been family members or friends of Fravel or Kingsbury.
