Bethlehem woman accused of fleeing from police officer at over 100 mph on I-78 in Berks

A Bethlehem woman led a trooper on a 10-mile vehicle chase on Interstate 78 in northern Berks County, reaching speeds exceeding 100 mph and traveling on the shoulder to pass other motorists, Bethlehem State Police said. Hamburg.

Dorian S. Wescott, 40, was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon after being detained in Bethel Township. Investigators said his breath gave off a strong odor of alcohol and there was an open bottle of brandy on the front passenger seat.

Wescott was charged with driving while intoxicated, fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, reckless driving and speeding.

He was cleared to await a hearing after his arraignment Tuesday night before District Judge Steven M. Chieffo in Reading Central Court.

According to the police:

A police officer was traveling west in an unmarked police vehicle when a pickup truck passed him at a high rate of speed. The truck weaved in and out of traffic, but the officer caught up with it and turned on his emergency lights.

Instead of stopping, the driver, later identified as Wescott, accelerated and began passing other vehicles on the shoulder.

Wescott was taken to Hamburg station, where she refused to submit to a chemical blood test for alcohol.
