Judge denies request to prosecute Karen Read’s parents’ phone records – Boston News, Weather, Sports

CANTON, MASS. (WHDH) – A judge denied a request by prosecutors to obtain the phone records of Karen Read’s parents.

In making the request, prosecutors allege that Read called her parents just a couple of hours after her boyfriend, Boston Police Officer John O’Keefe, was killed.

The judge denied the request, saying it did not meet the legal requirement to turn over evidence.

Read is accused of fatally hitting O’Keefe with her truck and then leaving him to die in a snowbank. Her defense has argued that she is being framed as part of a police cover-up.

His first trial ended with a hung jury. Both the prosecution and the defense ask to delay his new trial.
