Brit can’t believe what she sees in Istanbul’s “most dangerous” neighborhood | Europe | Travel

A Briton was stunned by what he saw after walking through the “most dangerous” neighborhood in Istanbul.

youtuber wendallwho visits some of the most famous neighborhoods in the world, appeared at the beginning of the video with his partner “dodgy Dave.”

They explained that they were in Stansted, ready to fly to Istanbul so Dave could have a hair transplant. And while they were in Istanbul, Wendall planned to take a walk through its “most dangerous ghetto.”

The first part of the video focused on Dave getting his new hair, but while he was being prepped for the procedure, Wendall asked the facility staff which neighborhood was considered the most difficult.

“I want danger, I want to be robbed,” he told them. They told him to go to Göztepe.

He met another friend, Danny, outside the facility and set out to reach Göztepe. On the way, the taxi driver told them that Dolapdere, a district in the center of Istanbul, was the most dangerous area of the city, so they headed there.

They were pleasantly surprised when they arrived and said the area didn’t seem “that bad.” Wendall joked: “There is more danger of having a heart attack here when walking through the hilly streets.”

Wendall tried some of the local cuisine, a chicken doner kebab that he described as “six out of 10,” but couldn’t get beer because it was a Muslim part of town.

As they continued, they encountered some young boys asking for money (buying sweets from them) and saw police searching someone, which Wendall explained was the “first sign of criminality” they had seen in Dolapdere.

And after leaving, the couple seemed a little disappointed. Danny joked: “I think the most dangerous thing was the spicy sauce on that kebab you had.”

So the next day they headed to Göztepe, the first recommendation they received at the hair transplant center.

The streets resembled those of Dolapdere, but this time Wendall chatted with a local who had lived in the area for 60 years. She invited Wendall to her “very basic” home and gave her some beads. Wendall bought him some food in return.

The YouTuber said as they continued their walk: “People have the impression, because the places are a little run down or maybe not as developed as before, that they are dangerous areas, but they are not!”

Wendall was interested in observing how there was still extreme poverty in the areas they visited, highlighted by how Istanbul’s Trump Towers – a luxury complex including shops, offices and apartments – “rise above” the areas he visited. He concluded: “The divide between the rich and the poor in this city could not be greater.”
