Teen seriously injured after Thanksgiving crash between pickup truck and UTV

OREGON, Mo. (KCTV) – A 15-year-old boy was seriously injured after a collision Thanksgiving night between a pickup truck and a UTV on a rural Missouri highway.

He Missouri State Highway Patrol indicates that around 5:30 pm on Thursday, November 28, emergency crews were called to Quebec Rd. and Holt 300, approximately one mile southwest of Oregon, with reports of a collision involving a utility vehicle.

When first responders arrived, they said they found a 15-year-old boy driving a Chuckwagon CW11 utility vehicle east on the highway. The UTV slowed as the teenage driver began to turn north on Holt 300.

However, a 2009 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by a 19-year-old Oregon man was heading west on the highway at the same time. The driver of the truck began braking to avoid the UTV, causing the truck to skid.

Investigators indicated the front of the truck struck the passenger side of the Chuckwagon.

First responders said the 15-year-old driver, who was not wearing any safety devices, was taken to Community Hospital in Fairfax with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The UTV he was driving sustained moderate damage in the collision and was turned over to the teen’s family.

State troopers noted that the driver of the pickup truck, who was wearing a seat belt at the time, escaped the crash uninjured. The truck suffered minor damage and was driven from the scene. No further information has been released.
