35-year-old man sentenced to 10 years for kidnapping and raping a minor | Bhubaneswar News

Kendrapada: Additional District and Special Judge (Pocso), Jajpur, on Saturday sentenced a 35-year-old man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for kidnapping and raping a 12-year-old girl five years ago.
Judge Bijay Kumar Jena also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the convict. If he fails to comply, he would have to spend another year in prison. The court directed the Odisha State Legal Services Authority (OSLSA) to provide compensation of Rs 3 lakh to the survivor under the government’s compensation scheme.
According to the prosecution, the incident occurred on June 19, 2019, when the minor was returning home after buying food at a nearby store. The prisoner, who was her neighbor, kidnapped her. The police rescued her five days later.
The girl’s mother lodged an FIR, leading to the man being booked under various sections of the IPC, including rape (376(2n)) and kidnapping (363), and Section 6 of the Pocso Act, 2012.
Special prosecutor Rajendra Prasad Nayak said the judge pronounced the sentence based on the statements of 17 witnesses, including the girl, and medical reports.
