‘A place of grace’ is now a disgrace: Staten Island’s Mount Loretto sanctuary vandalized

STATEN ISLAND, NY – Located within the Mount Loretto Unique AreaOverlooking Prince’s Bay is the Shrine of the Immaculate Virgin, a monument that has long been a place of comfort for people who often leave prayer cards and memorials in honor of a loved one.

That’s what Advance/SILive.com reader Eric Bowden said he expected when he visited in early November, only to find his friends and family’s prayer cards, along with many others, discarded on the back walls of the sanctuary.
