Jamie Carragher admits he still scribbles on his former teammate’s face when he signs Liverpool photos – Liverpool

Jamie Carragher still hasn’t gotten over a small part of his Liverpool career, and one of his former teammates suffers for it every time he signs a team photo.

Carragher developed his entire professional career in Liverpool between 1996 and 2013, having gone through its youth academy.

He accumulated more than 700 appearances and although he never won the first divisionraised the champions league trophy in 2005.

On that infamous and iconic night in Istanbul, Liverpool came back from 3-0 down against AC Milan after a first-half header from Paolo Maldini and a quick-fire double from Hernán Crespo.

Even the most optimistic Liverpool fans would have believed a comeback would be almost impossible, but the Reds fought back remarkably and scored three second-half goals in seven minutes. Steven Gerrardsubstitutes Vladimir Smicer and Xabi Alonso.

Jerzy Dudek’s penalty shootout heroics meant Liverpool won, and while it was a memorable night for the Reds, there was a moment afterwards when Carragher he still remembers it.

Talking about the Stay with football podcast, presented by sky betIn May, Carragher recalled: “One of my regrets when Stevie (Gerrard) lifted the trophy is that I’m not in any photos. I’m back stretching my calf, I’m cramping at the end of the game.

“There’s a shot from above and you see players who have only played two games. The right back, Josemi, is in all the photos, and I’m stretching my calf in the back and I’m thinking, ‘Oh, my God.’

“Every time I sign a painting (from that template), I’m signing above Josemi’s head.”

Josemi arrived at Anfield in the summer of 2004, becoming Benitez’s first signing as Liverpool manager in a £2 million deal.

He made 28 starts in all competitions and started four of the Champions League group stage matches in 2004/05, but was not on the bench in the final.

The Spaniard left Liverpool on the first day of the January 2006 transfer market, and midfielder Jan Kromkamp took the opposite path.

After four and a half more years in Spain, Josemi moved to Greek side Iraklis in 2010 and finished his career in the Indian Super League with Atlético Kolkata. before retiring at age 36 in 2016.
