She was joined on the red couch by Cher, Josh Brolin and Michael Fassbender – the recipient of her NSFW gift over a decade ago.

Fassbender, 47, had starred alongside Knightley in the 2011 film. A dangerous methodabout the relationship between psychoanalysts Carl Jung (Fassbender) and Sigmund Freud (played by Viggo Mortensen).

Meanwhile, Knightley played Sabrina Spielrein, Jung’s patient-turned-colleague. The three of them find themselves involved in a love triangle.

One scene in the film required Jung, played by Fassbender, to “spank” Knightley’s character.

“It was basically spanking,” Knightley told Norton of the film. “Michael had to spank me.”

Fassbender joked: “I was the spanker. “You were the one who was whipped.”

Given the themes of A dangerous method and the memorable filming of the scene, Knightley thought it appropriate to gift his co-stars, including Fassbender, a spanking paddle.

“I bought Michael and three other cast members their own spanking paddles,” she said.

Elsewhere in the conversation, the actors shed some light on how difficult it was to make the spanking scenes realistic without causing Knightley pain.

Knightley, who will star in the new Netflix show Black Doves – also spoke about his true feelings towards the now controversial scene in love in realitywhich fans have deemed “creepy”.

The actor appears in a famous scene from the Christmas classic, during which Andrew Lincoln’s character appears at the door of his house and declares his love using cardboard signs.

Knightley recalled a “creepy and sweet” moment. She shared with a car full of builders who recreated the moment in an unlikely situation.

“I was recently stuck in traffic for a long time and a car full of builders next to me started holding up signs like in the movie,” Knightley said.

“It was creepy and sweet at the same time, very similar to what happens in the movie.”

love in reality has been re-evaluated several times since its launch two decades agoand critics debate whether the film is as romantic as it initially seemed.
