Eagles sign WR from practice squad, lose LB to IR and elevate edge rusher and TE from practice squad

PHILADELPHIA — He Eagles signed veteran wide receiver Parris Campbell off the practice squad Saturday after placing Ben VanSumeren on injured reserve.

The team also elevated veteran tight end CJ Uzomah and running back Ochaun Mathis from the practice squad before Sunday’s game against the Ravens in Baltimore.

VanSumeren appeared on the injury report Friday with a knee injury. The second-year linebacker had become a mainstay on the Eagles’ special teams and also took on a role at fullback blocking for Saquon Barkley.

Campbell was signed after the Eagles announced earlier in the day that the rookie receiver Johnny Wilson He will be out against the Ravens due to a hamstring injury. Campbell, who has been on both the practice squad and active roster this season, has six receptions for 30 yards and a touchdown in four games. He played for the last time against Giants in week 7.

Mathis, the Rams’ sixth-round pick in 2023, played eight games as a rookie with the Rams and five games this season with the Patriots. He played 80 special teams snaps and 11 defensive snaps with New England this season.

Harris, a first-round pick of the Miami Dolphins in 2017, had three sacks in nine games this season with the Panthers and will make his Eagles debut on Sunday. The Eagles also elevated veteran tight end CJ Uzomah from the practice squad for the third straight week. Uzomah played three offensive snaps against Washington and 16 against the Rams, but did not have a target in either game. This is the last time he can be elevated from the practice squad. If the Eagles want to use Uzomah in a game again, they will have to sign him to the active roster.

The Eagles have used five different tight ends this season: Dallas Goedert, Grant Calcaterra, Jack Stoll, EJ Jenkins and Uzomah. Jenkins remains on the practice squad, but the team has also exhausted its three promotions of the season. Stoll, who was on both the practice squad and active roster earlier this season, is now with the Miami Dolphins after being released on Nov. 12.
